The city of Dresden is expecting additional expenditure of around 82 million euros in the coming year as a result of increased refugee numbers. However, the state capital does not have to bear this sum alone, as it will also receive transfers from the state of Saxony. Up to 46.8 million euros will be covered by the city's own funds in the new year, the municipality announced on Friday. "On the one hand, municipal costs are rising because Dresden has to accommodate more refugees than expected. On the other hand, higher prices are having an impact," it said. It was not possible to find out on Friday how much money Dresden was spending on asylum seekers in 2023. According to the administration, 2125 asylum seekers were assigned to the municipality, with 2200 people expected this year.
