In the past year, 34 rejected asylum seekers were granted a residence permit as hardship cases in Saxony after all. These included 14 children, as announced by the Saxon Hardship Commission. The decision was made by Interior Minister Armin Schuster (CDU).
A total of 50 new applications were submitted to the Hardship Commission last year. This affected 102 people, including 39 children. Most hardship applications were submitted for people from Georgia, followed by people from Turkey, Venezuela and Iraq.
22 of these applications were not processed because they were either withdrawn or excluded for other reasons. 10 applications are still open and will not be discussed until this year.
Commission submits request to Interior Minister
The Hardship Commission is made up of representatives from churches, associations, ministries and the Association of Districts, Towns and Municipalities. It is chaired by the Saxon Integration Commissioner Martin Modschiedler.
Foreigners who are required to leave the country can contact the members of the committee to request that the commission deal with their case. If a majority of two thirds determines that there are urgent humanitarian or personal reasons for a stay in Germany, a corresponding request is made to the Minister of the Interior.
