Billions for new roads: Which projects in Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia can now begin and what this means for commuters.

Federal Transport Minister Patrick Schnieder (CDU) has given the go-ahead for road projects in Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia. Specifically, this concerns the third construction section of the B169 federal highway between Salbitz and the B6 in North Saxony, the Miesterhorst bypass (B188) in the Altmark district of Salzwedel in Saxony-Anhalt and the project on the Sundhäuser mountains along the B4 in the Kyffhäuserkreis district of Thuringia.

Construction work can also begin in other parts of Germany: Schnieder granted approvals for many new construction and expansion projects on federal highways and freeways in Germany. The CDU politician handed over the corresponding letters to representatives of the federal states and the federal government's Autobahn GmbH at the Federal Ministry of Transport in Berlin this morning.

The leaders of the CDU, CSU and SPD coalition had decided in October that an additional three billion euros would be made available for the construction of new roads. Prior to this, there had been a stir after the Ministry of Transport had spoken of billions in funding gaps for new and expansion projects for freeways and federal highways. As a result, projects were on the back burner and there was a threat of delays to projects.
