Saxon chambers of industry and commerce (IHK) have demanded a binding timetable from Deutsche Bahn for the expansion of the Chemnitz-Leipzig train line. The line is of central importance for Saxony's economic development and creates the basis for the efficient mobility of skilled workers and goods, the Chemnitz and Leipzig Chambers of Industry and Commerce jointly announced after a new meeting with Deutsche Bahn.
Concrete statements on the start of construction and completion have still not been made after this third meeting with Deutsche Bahn. This is disappointing and unacceptable for the economic region. For the chambers, this project is one of the most important infrastructure projects - it must finally be prioritized and accelerated, they said.
The two chambers of industry and commerce expected Deutsche Bahn to provide concrete plans for the northern section (Geithain-Leipzig) and a binding timeline for the southern section (Chemnitz-Geithain) by this spring at the latest.
The business community is united behind this expansion. This is shown by the online petition of the Chemnitz Chamber of Industry and Commerce, which now has almost 8,000 supporters. Last summer, additional funds amounting to 9.3 million euros were secured in the Saxon budget for the planning. Nevertheless, the project is still well behind the original schedule.
