Twelve planning offices have submitted bids for the reconstruction of Dresden's Carola Bridge by the deadline. These will now be checked for completeness, suitability and remuneration, as announced by the Saxon state capital. Four offices are to be selected in December and will then have until mid-May to prepare designs for the replacement of the partially collapsed bridge.
The selection will be made by an evaluation committee comprising Lord Mayor Dirk Hilbert (FDP), Building Mayor Stephan Kühn (Greens) and new city councillors from all parliamentary groups, which will meet at the end of October. The decision will then be presented to the Committee for Economic Development for confirmation.
New building to be completed by 2031
The city council is expected to be able to decide which design should be implemented in the fall of 2026. According to previous information, it is planned that the urban community will have a say in the submissions. The new construction of the Carola Bridge in Dresden is expected to be completed in 2031 and could begin in the second quarter of 2028.
One of three strands of the Carola Bridge collapsed unexpectedly on the night of 11 September 2024 over a length of around 100 meters. There were no injuries. The demolition of the reinforced concrete structure was completed around a year later.
