While it is becoming increasingly uncomfortable outside, respiratory infections are on the rise in Saxony. Coronavirus infections in particular are on the rise these days, according to data from the State Institute for Health and Veterinary Investigation.
In the week from October 12 to 19, 453 Covid-19 cases were registered in the state, compared to 396 the week before, bringing the total number of cases in Saxony this year to just under 5,500.
In contrast, influenza is not yet playing a major role: 38 cases of influenza were reported in Saxony for the week from October 12 to October 19, and almost 43,500 infections for the entire year to date.
According to the Ministry of Health, the best time to get a flu vaccination is between the beginning of November and mid-December. The course of an influenza season cannot be predicted, it said. However, the seasonal flu epidemic usually occurs after the turn of the year - and reaches its peak in January or February.
