The wave of colds is rolling through Saxony. Flu and RSV infections have recently increased, while the number of coronavirus cases has fallen. This is according to the latest report from the state health authority.
The flu cases are now affecting all age groups. The health authorities reported clusters in retirement homes, hospitals, children's facilities and increasingly also in schools. From January 19 to 25, around 3,250 new cases of influenza were reported. This is an increase of 16 percent compared to the previous week.
64 deaths in the flu season so far
As expected, the RSV infections mainly affect young children. However, many cases have also recently been diagnosed in older adults. Epidemiologists reported more than 300 new RSV detections - an increase of 67 percent compared to the previous week.
So far, 64 influenza deaths have been counted in Saxony. Those who died were between 58 and 96 years old. In addition, 99 Covid-19 deaths have been recorded since the start of the coronavirus wave in the fall. This affected people aged between 53 and 90 years.
