A new bridge for cyclists connects the districts of Rottluff and Rabenstein. The bridge is part of a premium cycle path. Work will soon begin on another section.

The new bicycle bridge over Kalkstraße has been opened in Chemnitz. It connects the districts of Rottluff and Rabenstein. The federal and state governments have contributed around 8.7 million euros to the construction, as announced by the Saxon Ministry of Infrastructure. Construction work on the approximately 180-metre-long bridge reportedly took around a year. State Minister Regina Kraushaar and Claudia Elif Stutz (both CDU), State Secretary at the Federal Ministry of Transport, were among those present at the inauguration.

The new cycle path bridge closes a gap in the premium cycle path from Wüstenbrand to Küchwald. Once completed, this will have a total length of 13.6 kilometers. It runs along a former railroad line. Sections between Riedstraße and Kalkstraße and between Kalkstraße and Paul-Jäkel-Straße can already be used. The new bridge will connect the two sections. Construction work on a further 2.4-kilometre-long section is set to begin this month.
