The Trabant went into series production 60 years ago - now an exhibition is being dedicated to the cult car. This weekend, various model series of the Trabant and well-known historic vehicles, classic vintage cars, former racing cars, two-wheelers and bicycles from the period from 1910 to 1983 will be on display at the Chemnitz Exhibition Centre. The vehicles come from private lenders, museums and the Saxony West/Chemnitz Motor Vehicle Guild, as the organizers announced on Saturday.
Trabi fans can marvel at the classic Trabant 601 as well as the replica of the P 50, which won the 1959 rally in Finland in its class. Pupils from the Humboldt School in Zwickau have recreated this vehicle. Also worth seeing is the Renntrabi of racing driver icon Klaus Schumann. With a speed of 180 km/h, it is considered the fastest Trabi of its time. A special one-off is the Uni 1, a seven-seater large saloon with an aluminum body and hybrid drive from 1996.
Old-timer fans can look forward to the "Puppchen" from the Wanderer factories, a Horch Type 400 from 1929 and other elegant Horch and Audi models. Around 80 two-wheelers will be on display, including motorcycles from road and off-road racing, Diamant racing bikes and the legendary folding bikes from Mifa. The racing bike on which Gustav Adolf "Täve" Schur became world champion will also be on display.
