During traffic checks in the area of the damaged Agra Bridge south of Leipzig, the police have discovered dozens of violations in recent days. Almost 30 vehicles over 3.5 tons did not adhere to the current ban on passing through, according to the Leipzig police. In addition, a number of vehicles were driving too fast. A total of around 12,500 vehicles were randomly checked.
The authorities appealed to drivers of vehicles heavier than 3.5 tons to adhere to the new ban on driving through. The regulation is intended to ensure safety and reduce the strain on the bridge structure. Checks will continue in the coming weeks, it said.
Stricter rules have been in place on the Agra Bridge since November 20 due to serious damage. The 357-metre-long structure on Federal Highway 2 is a bottleneck for traffic entering Leipzig from the south. According to the Ministry of Infrastructure, around 30,000 vehicles pass the bridge every day.
