Saxony is sticking to its program for openness to the world. "Especially now, when pressure from opponents of democracy continues to increase, our focus must be on support that reaches the municipalities and in general even more strongly," explained Social Affairs Minister Petra Köpping (SPD). We need the democratic work of local networks, preferably from the region for the region.
"It takes experience and knowledge, trust and reliability for project work to have a lasting impact. In addition to regional players, we can also count on the outstanding expertise of nationwide initiatives," emphasized the Minister. Her department has now published the funding priorities for 2026. Funding will be provided for measures that help to reduce extremism, racism and anti-Semitism.
The "Weltoffenes Sachsen" program is part of the coalition agreement between the CDU and SPD and was launched in direct response to the success of the far-right NPD in the 2004 state elections. In the government's draft for the double budget, around 8.6 million euros have been earmarked for this this year and almost 8.7 million euros in 2026. Köpping and her department are also responsible for social cohesion.
