The handball players of Thüringer HC have bounced back with a win in the German league after the six-week World Cup break. The team of Head Coach Herbert Müller narrowly prevailed 32:31 (17:14) at BSV Sachsen Zwickau in front of 2,516 spectators.
Csenge Kuczora was the best scorer for THC, which now has 11:7 points, with eight goals. New signing Kelly de Abreu Rosa added two goals on her debut. Laura Szabo scored seven times for Zwickau (4:10), who put up a valiant fight.
Pace picks up
The visitors got off to a promising start, but then failed to open up a clearer gap. Both goalkeepers - Laura Kuske for THC and Barbara Györi for BSV - were initially outstanding. It was only towards the end of the first half that more goals were scored as the pace increased on both sides. At one point, the Thuringians pulled five goals ahead.
The home side started the second half with great vigor and exploited the THC's technical mistakes to reduce the deficit to 25:26 by the 48th minute. They even managed to tie the scores at 30:30 in the 57th minute, but the visitors showed the stronger nerves in the final phase and scored the winning goal through Kuczora.
