The ADAC in Saxony warns drivers of particular dangers on New Year's Eve. "Party people, low-flying rockets, loud firecrackers and poor visibility due to clouds of smoke in the dark: on New Year's Eve, drivers must expect all kinds of atypical situations and dangers," writes the automobile club in a press release. Thomas Kubin from ADAC Saxony recommends leaving the car parked for one to three hours from midnight at the latest if you don't absolutely have to drive.
Park the car in a safe place
The background noise and play of colors in the dark are distracting, and clouds of smoke can restrict visibility. "Coupled with drunk people who can suddenly step out onto the road, driving on New Year's Eve is correspondingly chaotic and sometimes dangerous," says Kubin.
The traffic expert also advises caution in traffic after the fireworks, as there could still be shards of glass and firework batteries on the roads and damage the car. "My tip: if you have the choice, it's better to leave your car parked on New Year's Eve." He also recommends parking your car in a garage or parking garage if possible. "This will protect the vehicle from falling rockets and firecrackers. If this is not possible, you should park the car in a quiet side street and cover it with a tarpaulin. "If damage does occur, the "sender" of the projectile is usually liable," explains Kubin.
