Foresters, forestry trainees and planting companies planted a total of 165,000 trees and shrubs in Saxon Switzerland in 2025. Specifically, various species were planted on 78 hectares of forest area in the state forest outside the Saxon Switzerland National Park and in the maintenance area of the national park, as announced by the Saxon Switzerland National Park and Forest Administration of Sachsenforst.
This forest conversion is intended to create structured, diverse mixed forests that are stable in the face of climate change. In addition, areas damaged by the bark beetle were reforested with the plantings, according to the statement. Some species offer additional protection against forest fires.
The planted species include silver fir and beech, which are to grow in the protection of existing forest areas. The foresters planted sycamore maple, beech, oak, pine and larch in areas damaged by the bark beetle. Alders were planted along streams, and dog rose, coneflower, snowball and buckthorn were planted on forest edges.
