Where to put the disused Christmas tree?

Christmas is over and the tree should slowly disappear from the living room. But where to put it? In Saxony, the correct disposal depends on where you live - there are different regulations in the major cities and districts. Here is an overview:

The basic rule everywhere is that the Christmas tree must be undecorated and free of any leftover tinsel. It should also be given for disposal unpackaged, i.e. not stuffed into bin bags or foil. The tree can be disposed of free of charge at recycling centers everywhere. There are also the following regional differences:

• The major cities of Leipzig and Dresden have set up collection points for disused Christmas trees. According to waste management, there are around 160 in Leipzig and a good 100 in Dresden.
• The districts of Meißen and Saxon Switzerland also rely on drop-off points. There are fixed collection times on which the trees are disposed of from there.
• In the districts of North Saxony, Görlitz, Bautzen, Zwickau as well as in the Erzgebirge and Vogtland, the waste management companies collect the old Christmas trees on certain days when the residual waste or organic waste garbage cans are emptied. Which collection days these are can be found in the respective waste calendars.
• According to the waste management company, the trees are also collected as part of the organic waste disposal in the city of Chemnitz. They can simply be placed next to the organic waste garbage can until the penultimate week of January.
• In the district of Central Saxony, the trees should be handed in at the recycling centers. However, towns such as Freiberg or Flöha also offer collection campaigns - the trees should be deposited at the used glass container collection points on certain dates.
• In the district of Leipzig, the disused Christmas trees must always be disposed of at the recycling centers.
