Timo Werner is plagued by physical complaints a good six months before the European Championship. He has already lost his regular place at RB Leipzig. A transfer may be on the cards this winter.

RB Leipzig will be without Timo Werner for longer than initially expected. The international is still out with adductor problems and will not be available for the match against 1. FC Heidenheim on Saturday (3.30pm/Sky). "The problems are becoming more persistent," said coach Marco Rose on Friday. Werner had already missed the games in Wolfsburg and Manchester.

In any case, physical problems have been a recurring theme throughout the first half of the season for the 57-time international. Werner had previously been slowed down by a cold and back problems. For the striker, the physical problems and the loss of his regular place have come at an inopportune time. After all, the European Championship begins at home in six and a half months' time, with the draw for the groups taking place in Hamburg on Saturday (18:00/ZDF).

There has long been speculation in Leipzig about Werner moving to Leipzig in the winter to gain match practice elsewhere. A loan abroad is probably a possibility, as Werner is the top earner in Leipzig and is tied down until 2026. Sporting director Rouven Schröder fueled speculation of a transfer just two weeks ago. When asked about Werner, the 48-year-old said: "We will have players who have other things on their minds. We'll face up to that."

There won't be enough time for captain Willi Orban to play another game this year. Rose hopes to return for the start of training on January 2. "We only have three weeks left and he's not yet in team training. We're not going to take any risks," said Rose. Orban has been out since mid-September with a torn collateral ligament in his knee.

In contrast, Xavi Simons could be available again against Heidenheim after falling on his right shoulder in Manchester. Rose wanted to wait for Friday's training session before making a decision. The treatment has already had a positive effect.
