Unknown persons attack SPD MEP Ecke while he is putting up election posters. The Left Party declares its solidarity with him, while the FDP and BSW condemn the attack.

The Left Party has declared its solidarity with the SPD politician and all victims of right-wing extremist violence following the attack on MEP Matthias Ecke. "All democrats must stand together against the danger from the far right," said Janine Wissler, Federal Chairwoman, and Susanne Schaper, State Chairwoman, in a statement on Saturday. They also see responsibility for the attack with parties such as the AfD and the "Free Saxons". "Anyone who incites hatred against people and makes them scapegoats for grievances contributes to a climate in which right-wing perpetrators of violence feel emboldened."

The Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance (BSW) strongly condemned the attack, as state chairwoman Sabine Zimmermann announced. "This terrible act shows that extreme groups are becoming more and more radicalized in order to achieve their political goals." The BSW wishes Ecke a speedy recovery.

The FDP's lead candidate in the state elections, Robert Malorny, said: "This violence is in no way acceptable." The perpetrators must be prosecuted using all constitutional means and held accountable. "Anyone who uses violence to settle the political discourse is an extremist criminal who operates outside the democratic discourse."
