An aircraft of the German Armed Forces Air Wing, on which Federal Minister of the Interior Alexander Dobrindt (CSU) had previously been traveling, had to make an emergency landing in Leipzig on Monday evening. As an air force spokesperson told the German Press Agency in the morning, the Airbus A319 was on its way from Berlin to its home base in Cologne. Following a warning message in the cockpit shortly after take-off, the pilot decided to land in Leipzig. The minister's delegation had previously disembarked in Berlin.
Dobrindt and his Polish counterpart Tomasz Siemoniak had visited the EU's external border with Belarus to get an idea of the situation.
Technicians from the air force wanted to inspect the aircraft during the course of the day, the spokesman added. A decision will then be made as to whether it needs to be repaired or can continue its flight.
