Federal police have apprehended ten refugees and arrested two smugglers in Bautzen within two days. According to police on Wednesday, officers controlled five people near a supermarket in Bautzen on Tuesday night following a tip-off. It is said to have been a 40-year-old Syrian, a 34-year-old Turkish woman, an 11-year-old Turkish girl and 4 and 9-year-old Turkish boys.

Shortly before, the police had controlled a Polish cab, which presumably brought the refugees to Germany. Task forces were able to stop the car a little later on Highway 4. The driver, a 31-year-old Ukrainian living in Germany, was initially detained and released a little later.

On Wednesday, police stopped the car of a 38-year-old Ukrainian driver also living in Germany. According to police, in addition to the driver, the car contained three Turks aged between 21 and 26, as well as an 18-year-old Turkish woman and her one-year-old daughter. The passengers all had no valid documents with them. This time, too, the smuggler was temporarily arrested and later released.

The two Ukrainians must now answer for smuggling in refugees under life-threatening circumstances. The fugitives were taken to an initial reception facility.
