Following allegations of possible Russian and Chinese connections and the arrest of an employee, AfD top candidate Krah is back on the campaign trail. In Chemnitz, his party is met with loud counter-protest.

The AfD's leading candidate for the European elections, Maximilian Krah, once again publicly canvassed for votes in Chemnitz on Wednesday. Krah has been criticized for possible links to Russia and China as well as the arrest of an employee on suspicion of espionage. A few days ago, he canceled his party's election campaign kick-off in Donaueschingen at short notice. "Home is always where you don't have to explain yourself," said Krah, who comes from Saxony, in front of an audience of around 90 people.

The event was accompanied by loud counter-protests. The participants held placards demanding "AfD ban now" and "Stop the AfD". They marched right past the AfD rally with live music, so that one of the speakers had to interrupt his speech.

Krah said that the spying issue was intended to distract from the government's wrong policies. "It's a bit reminiscent of the early days of the GDR, when capitalist potato bugs were also responsible for the failure of the communists. But it wasn't the potato beetle, it was the mismanagement."

Krah appeared at the election campaign launch of the AfD Chemnitz district association together with state leader Jörg Urban. "We want Saxony to be governed by the AfD from September," said Krah. As expected, Urban spoke of a smear campaign in view of the latest accusations.
