A stolen car, a chase through a Leipzig park and ultimately property damage and an injured person: What happened during the escape of a 31-year-old and what awaits the driver now.

A man has caused an accident and some property damage while fleeing from the police in Leipzig. The driver was driving a stolen car and evaded a traffic stop on Monday afternoon, according to police reports. The 31-year-old drove through the "Grüner Bogen" district park and hit a boundary stone and drove over the unpaved part of the road.

This damaged the meadow, the embankment and the path itself. At a junction, the man then disregarded the right of way of another car. The 46-year-old female driver was slightly injured in the collision.

Electricity box ends journey

The collision caused the fugitive's car to leave the road, break through a property fence and finally come to a stop at an electricity box, damaging it. The driver then tried to flee on foot, but was caught by the officers following him. The total damage caused was estimated at around 15,000 euros.

The 31-year-old is now being investigated for illegal motor vehicle racing, unauthorized removal from the scene of an accident, negligent bodily injury in connection with a traffic accident, violation of the compulsory insurance law and driving without a license.
