They are a cult event and a magnet for cineastes and music fans in summer. This year, the program of the Film Nights on the banks of the Elbe in Dresden is once again top-class - despite some difficulties.

Despite the demolition of the Carola Bridge in the immediate vicinity, the Dresden Film Nights on the banks of the Elbe are planning summer cinema and live concerts without restrictions. From June 19 to August 24, 91 films will be shown on the giant screen and twelve concerts will take place on stage, including four in the legendary "Kaisermania". The organizers clearly rejected rumors of possible concert cancellations. And the acoustics will not be affected by the demolition of the Elbe crossing. "We have a deal with the construction company that the work will stop when our program starts."

A total of 37 family films have been announced, including the Oscar-winning documentary "Flow", "The Wild Robot" and "Paddington in Peru". The evening program includes 51 films, with director Sönke Wortmann expected for "The Nickname" and Sam Riley for the performance of "Cranko". And for the midnight movie highlight "The Big Lebowski", bathrobes are dress code.

Schlager, rap and disco on the concert stage

Rapper Ski Aggu and singer Nina Chuba open the concerts. Pop singer Johannes Oerding, Die Fantastischen Vier, the indie pop band Provinz, rapper Sido, Scooter and Purple Disco Machine will follow and pop singer Roland Kaiser will also be celebrating his "Kaisermania" on the Elbe again. One of the four shows will be broadcast live on MDR and shown for the first time at the Filmnächte locations in Schwarzkollm, Leipzig and Dortmund.

After the partial collapse of the Carola Bridge in September 2024, the Filmnächte organizers had to develop "completely new scenarios within a very short time", especially for safety reasons, reported Managing Director Philip Hartmanis. "The whole site was turned upside down". The main entrance and exit has been moved to the west side, the east side towards the bridge has been closed off and there are other escape routes. Hartmanis put the costs at around 100,000 euros.
