Federal Minister of Labor Hubertus Heil is coming to a rally in Dresden on May 1st. The SPD politician and Verdi board member Sylvia Bühler will give a speech on Labor Day, the German Trade Union Confederation (DGB) announced in Dresden on Monday. The Saxon DGB has chosen the motto "More pay, more free time, more security, more education time" for its Labor Day events.

"On Labor Day, we will be present on the streets and squares of Saxony with demonstrations, rallies and a bicycle parade. Together with the employees, we are flying the flag for better working and living conditions, for more collective agreements and co-determination, for more social justice and social cohesion," explained DGB head Markus Schlimbach. Together, they want to stand up for security in times of change, a strong democracy and a good future for Saxony in this election year.

"This year, Labor Day is also a day for education time. In 14 federal states, there is a right to educational leave. Only Saxony and Bavaria do not. We want to change this with our popular motion for 5 days of educational leave in Saxony," added DGB Vice President Daniela Kolbe. 30,000 people have already signed the corresponding petition, and now the aim is to quickly reach the necessary 40,000 signatures. "We are calling on people to sign at our events on May 1."
