Leipzig's handball team is simply not getting into its stride in the Bundesliga. In their home defeat against Wetzlar, they squandered a four-goal lead in the second half.

The SC DHfK Leipzig handball team suffered its third defeat in its third Bundesliga game. The team of coach Raul Alonso lost 24:25 (13:12) to HSG Wetzlar in front of a home crowd. National player Franz Semper was SC DHfK's best scorer with nine goals.

Three days after the 29:34 home defeat against Lemgo, Leipzig was determined to make amends right from the start. Semper in particular got off to a determined start and scored the first three goals for the home side. From the middle of the first half onwards, both teams lost their playful line. Leipzig was at least convincing defensively and went into the break with a narrow lead.

In the second half, the game was interrupted for 15 minutes at 16:15 (39 minutes) due to a medical emergency involving a person from SC DHfK's club environment. After the all-clear was given, the home side got back into its rhythm more quickly and pulled 19:15 ahead in the 46th minute. However, they were not able to maintain this level. Wetzlar fought its way back into the game and led 25:22 (58') after scoring four goals in succession. Leipzig's final rally was unsuccessful.
