The Moritzburg stallion parade starts with a new indoor riding arena and millions invested. Why horse breeding is considered a valuable cultural heritage in Saxony.

The traditional stallion parade attracted hundreds of spectators to Moritzburg. The Saxon stud administration presented the breeding stallions of all breeds in a four-hour program, as the organizers announced. More than 130 horses were on display, including the entire stallion stock of the state stud. Further stallion parades will take place on September 14 and 20.

Horse breeding is a valuable cultural heritage in Saxony, said Minister of Agriculture Georg-Ludwig von Breitenbuch at the opening ceremony. "For over 100 years, the Moritzburg Stallion Parades have captivated the public with their varied program," said the CDU politician. The Saxon stud administration plays a key role in preserving the diversity of horse breeds and plays an important role in training and further education.

Saxony invests millions in modernization

Since 2007, the state stud's premises have been undergoing extensive modernization. A new indoor riding arena was handed over in a festive ceremony at the beginning of August. The new hall with an area of 4,200 square meters offers space for 824 visitors; according to Saxony's Ministry of Finance, around 27 million euros were invested in the project. The construction program is financed by budget funds from the Free State of Saxony.

The Saxon stud administration with the Moritzburg State Stud is the central competence center for the horse industry in Saxony and Thuringia. With currently 85 breeding stallions, its own state technical school and events such as the popular stallion parades, the stud contributes to the support of horse breeding, the preservation of endangered horse breeds and the training of specialists.
