The consumer advice center in Saxony warns of fraudulent calls allegedly made in the name of the online payment service PayPal. In recent days, consumers have been asked by a computer voice on the phone to provide sensitive personal data, the consumer advice center said. The clear aim behind this is identity and data theft.
A female computer voice on the phone said, among other things: "Unfortunately, the planned transfer of 500 euros could not be carried out." Users were then asked to enter their PayPal pin and other details. The calls were always made with a suppressed phone number, according to the consumer advice center.
Users should not enter the requested numbers under any circumstances. In recent weeks, police across Germany have also reported similar scams in connection with the online payment service. PayPal is a quick way to send money over the internet, for example to friends or when shopping online.
