Thousands of visitors celebrated the Day of the Saxons in Sebnitz at the weekend. In bright sunshine and midsummer temperatures, the people of Sebnitz and their guests watched the highlight of the weekend on Sunday: the Sunday parade lasting several hours with around 1,800 participants from all over Saxony, 90 pictures, twelve marching bands and music bands as well as numerous floats and historic vehicles.
According to the police, the event was peaceful throughout and without incident. Short-term "traffic snarls" due to the parade were quickly resolved. Parking capacities were almost fully utilized, especially from Sunday afternoon.
The small town on the Czech border is celebrating its 30th Day of the Saxons this weekend. The motto of the anniversary was "To blooming experiences!". It is the second Day of the Saxons in Sebnitz since 2003. 64 percent of Sebnitz residents voted in a referendum to reapply for Saxony's largest folk festival.
