Railroad puts Magistrale section into operation after renovation

The 288-kilometre-long Saxony-Franconia main line of the railroad is being brought up to scratch. A section in Thuringia is now complete.

The railroad has modernized a section of the Saxony-Franconia Main Line in eastern Thuringia. The line between Altenburg and Treben-Lehma has officially gone into operation, announced Deutsche Bahn and the Thuringian Ministry of Transport.

Six kilometers of new track, 14 kilometers of overhead line and 42 new points have been laid. In addition, nine bridges have been renovated or built and noise barriers erected. Trains will be able to pass through the section at a speed of 160 km/h in future, according to Deutsche Bahn. In Altenburg, a new platform, an elevator and disabled access as well as an electronic signal box were built.

The Saxony-Franconia Main Line stretches for around 288 kilometers and connects the federal states of Saxony, Thuringia and Saxony-Anhalt with the states of Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg via the Dresden-Hof and Leipzig-Werdau sections. According to Deutsche Bahn, the lines are being completely renewed. Among other things, around 850 kilometers of track will be rebuilt, 52 stations and stops modernized and 32 electronic signal boxes installed.
