The district administration points to low water levels and forecasts of dry and hot weather. Until further notice, pumping water from rivers and streams is therefore prohibited. What exceptions apply.

The Mittelsachsen district has banned the pumping of water from surface water bodies. A corresponding general order is effective immediately, the district administration office in Freiberg announced. According to the order, the situation in the district’s water bodies has not improved even after the recent rainfall. Water levels in rivers and streams remain low. Given forecasts predicting dry and warm weather, the extraction of water using pumps therefore remains prohibited until further notice.

Water may still be drawn using hand-held containers, the announcement continues. However, this should be done “only with great restraint.” The general order is initially valid until the end of September. Previously, the district of North Saxony, the city of Chemnitz, and the city of Dresden had already issued similar bans.
