SC DHfK Leipzig concedes home defeat against Göppingen

The Bundesliga handball players of SC DHfK Leipzig conceded their fourth defeat in the sixth game of the season despite a strong second-half comeback. The team of coach Runar Sigtryggsson lost to Frisch Auf Göppingen 33:35 (15:18) on Sunday afternoon. The Göppinger thus celebrated their first away win since November 6, 2022, when they also had the upper hand in Leipzig with 26:25. Best thrower of the SC DHfK was captain Lukas Binder with seven goals.

Till 10:10 (20th minute) both teams delivered themselves an open exchange of blows, before the Goeppinger with a short intermediate spurt to 13:10 (24th) could set off easily for the first time. The Leipzig team was trailing until the break because they showed too many gaps in their defense. At the start of the second period, the guests also looked much more determined and extended their lead with a 5:0 run to 23:15 (37th). To all over it injured itself with the hosts at the beginning of the second half also still national player Luca Witzke.

After a time-out of Sigtryggsson and the substitution of Oskar Sunnefeldt the Leipziger brushed off their lethargy and acted now with clearly more speed in their actions. With four goals in a row, the hosts reduced the score to 23:26 (44th) and brought the crowd back into the game. Another 4:0 run gave Leipzig the 30:29 lead (52.). In the final phase, however, the hosts clearly showed that they were running out of steam. Göppingen regained the lead with four goals in a row to 33:30 (56th). Although the SC DHfK once again reduced to 32:33 (58.), but could no longer force a turn.
