Saxony wants to ease the burden on its local authorities and has set up a reform commission to do so. This commission is to present an interim report by the end of the year, as announced by the Minister of the Interior. It is to review the structures of the state administrative authorities and the distribution of responsibilities between the state and municipal levels and make proposals on how the burden on the municipalities can be reduced.
"It is about fundamental aspects of our state administration and its actions or the question of how we can strengthen our municipalities in the long term by giving them more freedom to shape their own affairs," emphasized Interior Minister Armin Schuster (CDU). The commission is expected to provide valuable impetus for a citizen-oriented, lean and sustainable Free State. The aim is to remove state brakes on growth. "There are no bans on thinking about this."
