The new construction of the Carola Bridge in Dresden is scheduled for completion in 2031. According to the Dresden city council, construction is expected to begin in the second quarter of 2028. This summer, the city council decided to build a new four-lane replacement for the bridge, which partially collapsed last year.
Tender documents to be published at the beginning of September
According to the city administration, the tender documents are to be published at the beginning of September. It is planned that four offices will be commissioned with specific designs for the new bridge. These will then be presented to the public and discussed at the end of May 2026. The best design will then be realized.
Terrassenufer soon passable again
After the demolition of the old Carola Bridge, remaining work is still required on both sides of the Elbe. The Terrassenufer should be passable again from mid-September, the city announced. The roadway and footpaths will be repaired by then.
Repairs needed on Elbe cycle path
The Elbe cycle path on the Neustadt side should be usable again by mid-October if possible. After the end of the film nights at the end of August, it will be seen what repairs are needed to the cycle path and the Elbe meadows.
The Carola Bridge - a prestressed concrete structure from the GDR era - partially collapsed on the night of September 11, 2024. No one was injured. Investigations revealed that the entire bridge had to be demolished.
