Fewer and fewer people are working in the skilled trades requiring registration in Saxony. In the third quarter of this year, the number was almost 5 percentage points below the average for 2020, the State Statistical Office announced on Tuesday. Compared to the same quarter in 2022, the decline amounted to 2.4 percent. All trades were affected, with the construction industry suffering the greatest decline of 5.3 percent. The statisticians did not provide absolute figures.

In the third quarter, turnover for the entire skilled trades sector was nominally 4.4% higher than in the same period of the previous year. However, the high rates of price increases should be taken into account. Price-adjusted data is not yet available.

The development of turnover in the trade groups varied. There was an increase of 8.6 percent in the motor vehicle industry and 8 percent in the healthcare industry. In the main construction sector, turnover fell by 1.3% compared to the same quarter of the previous year. The finishing trade increased its turnover by a nominal 6.7 percent.
