Young people and training companies are deciding earlier and earlier, according to the Dresden Chamber of Crafts. However, many apprenticeship positions are still unfilled.

The skilled trades sector in eastern Saxony is reporting growing interest in apprenticeships. Since the beginning of the year, 21 more training contracts have been concluded than in the same period last year. According to the chamber, 781 school leavers have already found an apprenticeship, including 190 young women.

"This continues the trend of both young people and training companies committing themselves earlier and earlier," said Andreas Brzezinski, Managing Director of the Dresden Chamber of Skilled Crafts.

Car mechatronics technicians, electronics technicians and plant mechanics continue to be very popular in the districts of Meißen, Bautzen, Görlitz, Saxon Switzerland-Eastern Ore Mountains and in the state capital of Dresden. The top ten also includes salespeople in the food trade, hairdressers, joiners, carpenters, painters and varnishers, bakers and roofers.

According to the chamber, there are still more than 400 apprenticeships available in the region's skilled trades, as well as over 400 internships and around 200 vacation jobs. The companies provide training in a good 80 professions - from A for plant mechanic for sanitary, heating and air conditioning technology to Z for carpentry.
