RB Leipzig in the cup at Sandhausen - Dynamo against Mainz

RB Leipzig will face SV Sandhausen in the first round of the DFB Cup. This was the result of the draw for the first main round at the German Football Museum in Dortmund. A more than solvable task for the cup winners of 2022 and 2023, as Sandhausen have just been relegated from the 3rd division. RB already defeated SVS 4:0 in the first round in 2021.

"With SV Sandhausen, we are facing an ambitious regional league team that will certainly not make the task easy for us. Nevertheless, we have a clear ambition to win there and advance to the second round," said RB sporting director Marcel Schäfer.

First division teams for Dresden and Halle

"Fairy godmother" Owen Ansah, who last year became the first German ever to run the 100-meter sprint in under ten seconds, gave Dynamo Dresden a first division team. The team from the Elbe city will host 1. FSV Mainz. Saxony-Anhalt state cup winners Hallescher FC also drew a Bundesliga team. The north-east regional league team will face FC Augsburg with new coach Sandro Wagner.

Saxon state cup winners 1. FC Lok Leipzig, successors to the first German champions in 1903, will host FC Schalke 04, while Thuringian state cup winners ZFC Meuselwitz, as a north-east regional league team, have home rights against second-division side Karlsruher SC.

Second-division side 1. FC Magdeburg, under new coach Markus Fiedler, will face third-division side 1. FC Saarbrücken, who missed out on promotion to the second division in the relegation play-off.

The first round of the cup is scheduled for August 15-18. Champions Bayern Munich and defending champions VfB Stuttgart will not enter the tournament until August 26 or 27. The cup final will take place next season on May 23, 2026 in Berlin's Olympic Stadium.
