On October 10, more than 20 restaurants will be cooking for the charity gala at the Schauspielhaus—many of them on a volunteer basis.

Culinary delights are also part of the program at the 18th HOPE Gala on October 10 at the Schauspielhaus in Dresden. More than 20 restaurateurs from Dresden and the surrounding area are organizing the after-show party and inviting guests to sample their offerings at various stations in the foyer, the orchestra section, and on stage. Their teams are volunteering their time that evening; in many cases, food and products are also being donated. Proceeds from the HOPE Gala will benefit the HOPE Cape Town project, which focuses primarily on healthcare and education for children and young people in South Africa’s townships.

Among the participants are the restaurants Stresa, Hirschsalon, and Carolaschlösschen, as well as Canapè Manufaktur and Mario Pattis. The ElbUferei, the dark restaurant Sinneswandel, and KORA Kantinen & Gerichteküche will be bringing their own creations. The new fine-dining restaurant “CO 27” by Clemens Lutz (previously known as Kobalt at the Basteischlösschen) is on the culinary lineup, as is the Bistro at the Frauenkirche in the HILTON Hotel.

Several partners are participating in the HOPE Gala for the first time this year: the HYPERION Hotel, the Vietnamese restaurant Nam Dinh, the Italian restaurant Da Michele, and the Gnauck bakery. The offerings are rounded out by numerous dessert stations, including Mary Cakes, Cupcake Floristry, and the Wiener KaffeeHaus at the Star G Hotel. Schokoladenmädchen, Sander Gourmet, and “Quartier 5” from Gohrisch are also contributing desserts and sweets.

Beverages will be provided by Valckenberg Weinhandel, Oppacher, and the Meißner Schwerter private brewery, among others. Coffee comes from the House of Coffee and the Dresdner Kaffee und Kakao Rösterei. At the cigar factory, visitors can also watch cigars being rolled. The HofZwanzig team will be running several bars on-site.

Restaurateurs Think Outside the Box

Behind the scenes, Stephan Gaubatz Eventlogistik and the ElbTalTeam, with more than 40 service staff, handle the operations. “The restaurateurs are literally thinking outside the box,” says Michaela Gornickel of Par.X Marketing & Events, who is organizing the gala. Many of the participating companies have been involved for years and not only provide their labor but often also donate goods free of charge.

The HOPE Gala is one of the major charity events in the new federal states. This year’s stage lineup includes Kathy Kelly, Jan Josef Liefers with Radio Doria, the baroque orchestra Camerata Musicus, and the children’s choir “Youth of Hope.” Ruth Moschner and Benjamin Bieneck will host the gala. After the stage program, the celebration will continue at the Schauspielhaus: Milan Devinne and his band will play hits by Queen and David Bowie, among others, followed by Senay Gueler, Mr. RaschiRush, and DJane Curly.
