Bundesliga soccer club RB Leipzig wants to tie down high-flyer Xavi Simons, who is on loan without an option to buy, for longer than just one season. "Clearly we have the intention to extend that in the best case," said sports director Max Eberl to the "Kicker". They are trying to obtain in the summer of 2024, "that he plays longer with us." The 20-year-old Dutchman is borrowed from Paris Saint-Germain for a season.
With three goals and five submissions from five Bundesliga games, Simons has an outstanding record so far. On Saturday, he prepared the winning goal in the 1-0 in Mönchengladbach by Timo Werner. "Xavi has made a very good start and he's on a very good run right now. I think we're tying him emotionally to RB Leipzig right now," Eberl said. He is very active, very willing, strong in running, intelligent in playing, he said. "A complete package that fits very well to RB."
Coach Marco Rose had already previously raised hopes that Simons could stay longer in Leipzig. The 47-year-old hopes that the player takes an example from Dani Olmo. The currently injured Spanish international extended his contract in Leipzig in the summer despite numerous interested parties and is one of the team's leading players.
