The Markneukirchen Instrumental Competition celebrates its 60th birthday with violins and violas. Most of the participants come from China.

From Friday, 64 musicians from all over the world will be performing at the International Instrumental Competition in Markneukirchen. A total of 21 countries and four continents are represented, the organizers announced. Most of the participants came from China, followed by Germany and France. The renowned competition is celebrating its 60th anniversary and is held in the violin and viola categories.

With the violin, the instrumental competition is returning to its roots. 26 musicians want to show off their skills on the violin and 38 on the viola. They are between 16 and 29 years old. The violinists will start in the morning in the Markneukirchen Music Hall, the violists in Erlbach Old Castle. Visitors are welcome to attend the auditions - admission is free.

The first three prizes are endowed with prize money of 7,000 euros, 5,000 euros and 3,500 euros. The audience prize is a violin or viola bow from a master bow maker from Vogtland worth up to 2,500 euros.

Vogtland is an internationally renowned address for the manufacture of musical instruments. The first prize winners will receive a concert engagement with the Chursächsische Philharmonie Bad Elster.
