Rammenau Castle in the district of Bautzen has repeatedly served as a movie set. Now a new permanent exhibition introduces visitors to 300 years of the castle's history.

The baroque Rammenau Castle in the district of Bautzen is now hosting a permanent exhibition providing an insight into 300 years of castle history. The exhibition entitled "Cowshed and Silver Plates - Nobility and Everyday Life in Rammenau" will open on Sunday (June 29) and show the everyday life of the former castle residents and their servants. A family festival is planned to mark the opening.

All parts of the baroque complex have been renovated

Rammenau Castle is the only fully preserved baroque complex in the countryside in Saxony. All parts of the building - the Meierhof, the courtyard of honor, the castle and the park - have been renovated. What the individual parts were used for in the past is the subject of the permanent exhibition. The new tour covers the entire complex.

For the first time, visitors can also find out how the servants lived, what there was to eat and what hard work had to be done on the farm and in the fields. Visitors can try their hand at milking at a milking station. In the castle itself, on the other hand, you can get to know the aristocratic inhabitants. Luxury and comfort reigned in the magnificent chambers.

Exhibition to appeal to the senses

"The exhibition specifically appeals to the senses: You can read, hear, feel, play, use your own strength and join in. The everyday worlds of nobility and servants, the interplay between castle and village, can be experienced in an impressive way," said the Schlösserland state enterprise.

"We have given the castle a completely new face. Rammenau Castle has become an absolute insider tip among Saxony's excursion destinations and is a great example of successful knowledge transfer with an experience factor in a complete package," emphasized Schlösserland boss Christian Striefler. A total of around 1.5 million euros was invested in the refurbishment of the castle.

Rammenau Castle is a popular excursion destination. Even in GDR times, the castle served as a film set. A large part of the film "The Life of a Good-for-Nothing" with Dean Reed was shot here.
