Sächsische Dampfschifffahrt once again has more water from the Elbe under its keel and can therefore expand its service offerings. Currently, castle tours from Dresden’s Terrassenufer to Pillnitz are once again possible, and the route down the Elbe past Meissen to Seußlitz is navigable. However, conditions are not yet sufficient for the route from Dresden to Bad Schandau, the company announced.
Water level expected to drop again starting Thursday evening
The water level of the Elbe in Dresden stood at 69 centimeters on Tuesday at noon; the long-term average is 1.60 meters. During the once-in-a-century flood in August 2002, it reached 9.40 meters. According to forecasts from the State Flood Center, the water level is expected to rise to 76 centimeters overnight into Wednesday, but will begin to fall again in the morning and drop below 60 centimeters by late Thursday evening.
