The Niners Chemnitz basketball team has reached the play-off semi-finals for the German championship. The charges of Head Coach Rodrigo Pastore got the better of Rasta Vechta by 84:67 (44:26) on Thursday and won the series 3:1. In the semi-finals, the club from Saxony will face Alba Berlin, who defeated Telekom Baskets Bonn in three games in the quarter-finals.
Jeff Garrett played the biggest part in the visitors' success with 19 points. Tommy Kuhse scored the most points for Vechta with 18. Chemnitz celebrated a start-to-finish victory and so prevented a decisive fifth game.
The visitors were 7:0 ahead after three minutes and stretched their lead to 40:22 by the 18th minute. Although the club from Lower Saxony was able to cut the deficit to 40:48 (26') shortly after the break, the Niners did not let the victory slip from their grasp thanks to their strong defending. Moreover, the visitors had a far better shooting percentage from the floor and also had air superiority under the baskets. The Saxons grabbed 36 rebounds, the hosts just 26.
