Bundesliga basketball team Niners Chemnitz will play in the BKT EuroCup for the first time next season. This was announced by the organizing association ULEB (Union des Ligues Européennes de Basketball). In what is currently the second best continental competition, Germany has been represented by Ulm and Hamburg in recent years. With Chemnitz, a third BBL club is now joining for the first time.
A total of 20 European clubs from twelve different countries are competing for the title. The winner can advance to the EuroLeague, where there will only be one German participant next season, Bayern Munich.
"We are over the moon that we received the final confirmation from the ULEB this afternoon and will be able to compete in the prestigious and top-class BKT EuroCup for the first time in our club's history next season," said Niners Managing Director Steffen Herhold.
Even after Chemnitz's first European appearances in the FIBA Europe Cup 2022/23, Saxony could only dream of these competitions. Most recently, the East German club shone with its Europe Cup victory in 2024 and its first Champions League appearance.
