Pure sunshine: Saxony sees the Spanish region of Andalusia as a close partner for the energy transition. "Andalusia wants to promote the solar industry and the production of green hydrogen along the entire value chain. Andalusia and Spain as a whole are real heavyweights in the field of renewable energies," said Saxony's Energy Minister Wolfram Günther (Greens) during a visit to Seville on Thursday. They share ambitious goals - to support the European solar industry in its ramp-up and to develop marketable applications and infrastructure for green hydrogen. Günther and his Andalusian counterpart Jorge Paradela Gutiérrez agreed on closer cooperation in both areas.

According to Günther, Saxony and Andalusia can also learn a lot from each other in the areas of climate adaptation, water management and agriculture. He discussed this with Andalusian Agriculture Minister Carmen Crespo on Thursday. A visit by Paradela Gutiérrez to Saxony has been agreed for the spring. Both regions would also like to establish a regional partnership. Andalusia is also a founding member of the network of European solar industry regions initiated by Saxony.
