Markus Fiedler is to become the new head coach at 1. FC Magdeburg. The 39-year-old comes to the Elbe from third-division soccer club VfB Stuttgart II and succeeds Christian Titz, who has moved to Hanover. "We are looking forward to working with Markus Fiedler, a dynamic and tactically adept head coach. Markus has done an outstanding job at VfB Stuttgart over a number of years and has developed young, talented players in a targeted manner," said FCM sporting director Otmar Schork.
Fiedler will lead the first training session at FCM on June 23. "Leaving Stuttgart is incredibly difficult for me. I was able to experience ten wonderful years at this great club. But when the request came from Magdeburg, I quickly realized that I wanted to take this opportunity," said Fiedler, who completed his first state examination in English, politics and history in 2018 in addition to his coaching job.
Fiedler coached many youth teams at the Swabians and led the VfB reserves to promotion to the 3rd division immediately after taking up his post. In the past season, he managed to stay in the league. As his contract in Stuttgart was still running, the second division club from Magdeburg had to pay a transfer fee to the Swabians.
