The Niners Chemnitz basketball team lost the final encounter of the German league's main round. Despite the 94:104 (51:61) defeat at EWE Baskets Oldenburg, the club from Saxony finished in fourth place in the final standings, which secures them the right to play at home in the play-off quarter-finals. Len Schoormann (26), Artur Konontsuk (16), Norris Agbakoko, Geno Crandall (15 each) and Justin Jaworski (14) played the biggest part in the home side's success. Victor Bailey Jr. (27), Jacob Gilyard (12) and DeAndre Lansdowne (11) scored the most points for the Niners.
The visitors missed the start. Oldenburg pulled away with a 9:0 run from 5:4 (2nd) to 14:4 (4th) and stretched its lead to 34:16 by the ninth minute. Chemnitz fought back against the threat of its 14th defeat of the season and tied the scores at 43:43 after 16 minutes. However, the players of Head Coach Rodrigo Pastore did not produce a lasting turnaround with this spurt and the home side pulled ten points ahead again by the break.
Too many turnovers by the Niners
Despite the better shooting percentage from the floor (56:49 percent), the Niners were only able to close the gap to five points (85:80) with seven minutes remaining. Oldenburg benefited from its air superiority under the boards (36:27 rebounds) and its lower number of turnovers (8:13).
