The Thüringer HC women's handball team remains hot on the heels of Bundesliga leader Blomberg-Lippe. Coach Herbert Müller’s team won Saturday evening’s Eastern German showdown against SV Union Halle-Neustadt in front of a home crowd, 32–30 (14–14). In front of 1,170 spectators, Levke Kretschmann was the THC’s top scorer with nine goals; the team now ranks second with a 13-1 record, trailing the Blomberg women, who are tied on points. For the Halle team (3–11), coached by Pether Krautmeyer, Fabienne Büch, Lynn Holtmann, and Emma Hertha each scored five goals. The Thuringian team got off to a slow start and lacked momentum in attack. Halle impressed defensively with solid retreating play and relied on a fast pace during their own attacks. Although the visitors committed more technical errors than the THC, they ultimately forced a closely contested match. After the break, the hosts received a valuable boost from Maie Gomaa. The goalkeeper, who came on as a substitute for Laura Kuske, shone with several saves and played a major role in helping the THC pull slightly ahead to 23–20 (45th minute). Halle fought back tenaciously but was unable to close the gap in the final minutes. Copyright 2026, dpa (www.dpa.de). All rights reservedA closely contested match
