At their party conference in Dresden, the Saxon Social Democrats also discuss how to deal with the AfD. In a motion, they call on the government to take action.

The Saxon SPD wants to campaign for an AfD ban. This was decided by the delegates with a corresponding motion at the state party conference in Dresden. According to the motion, the constitutional bodies entitled to submit proposals, the Bundestag, Bundesrat and federal government, should be called upon to create the conditions for an AfD ban procedure in the near future.

"The time to act is now. Every day we see how the AfD is attacking our democracy, dividing our society and deliberately undermining the fundamental values of our country," explained Henning Homann, who was re-elected as the leadership duo of the Saxon SPD together with Kathrin Michel on Saturday. Decisive action is therefore necessary.

Calls for the initiation of a ban procedure against the AfD had become louder after the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution classified the party as right-wing extremist. However, due to the AfD's legal action against this, the classification is on hold for the time being.
