SC Magdeburg Wins Handily at Kriens-Lucerne

SC Magdeburg, a team in the German Handball Bundesliga, won its second game in the preliminary round of the Champions League. Playing against Swiss champions Kriens-Lucerne, the team from Magdeburg secured a 39–29 (20–11) victory in front of 3,899 spectators. Four Magdeburg players each scored five goals, making them the top scorers.

SCM got off to a strong start in Kriens, capitalizing on mistakes by the Swiss hosts to take an early two-goal lead (4–2, 6th minute). When Kriens—featuring former Berliner Lukas Herburger and former Kiel player Mykola Bylik—switched to a seven-on-six formation, Magdeburg doubled its lead. The German champions also had the edge in goal, with Matej Mandic posting a save percentage of 45 percent by halftime. As a result, the German champions held a clear lead at halftime.

After the break, the SCM maintained its comfortable lead in a fair match, taking a ten-goal lead for the first time while on the power play (25–15, 37th minute). Above all, the defense led by captain Magnus Saugstrup and Elvar Örn Jonsson played with focus, repeatedly forcing the hosts—coached by Andy Schmid—into poor shooting situations. For the SCM, U18 European champion Malte Elze saw a few more minutes of playing time in what was ultimately a comfortable victory.
