The Saxon SPD plans to elect a new executive board at its state party conference in Dresden today. The current chairpersons Kathrin Michel and Henning Homann will run again as a dual leadership. No opposing candidates are yet known. The Mayor of Hoyerswerda, Torsten Ruban-Zeh, and Sophie Koch are running for the deputy positions. SPD Chairman and Federal Minister of Finance Lars Klingbeil is also expected to speak at the state party conference on Saturday afternoon.
The party also plans to discuss two key motions, which deal with economic recovery and social cohesion, among other things. In the most recent state election on September 1, 2024, the SPD received 7.3 percent of the vote - it currently forms a minority government in Saxony together with the CDU.
