Heat as a health risk: The Saxon Medical Conference calls on politicians and administrators to take action.

The health consequences of heatwaves and climate change must become a priority in the view of the Saxon Medical Assembly. Climate change is the greatest health challenge of the 21st century, according to the Medical Assembly. Heatwaves are causing an increasing number of cases of morbidity and mortality, particularly among older people, the chronically ill and children.

In a resolution passed by the Medical Assembly, politicians and administrators in the Free State are called upon to work towards effective climate protection measures and compliance with health protection standards during heatwaves. According to the resolution, the Saxon State Medical Association wants to provide doctors and medical professionals with more information about the dangers and preventative measures, as well as support local authorities, clinics and practices in the implementation of heat protection plans.

The Saxon State Medical Association has a special responsibility to protect the health of the population and support its members in dealing with new health challenges, according to the statement. Through targeted measures, it can make a significant contribution to making the healthcare system climate-resilient.
